Six Democratic “Accomplishments”

Since the Democratic majority congress has been in session, they have made some “accomplishments.” From a conservative viewpoint, these several pieces of legislation are transparent in their real accomplishments and their worthlessness to most of the citizens of our country.

Right: Democratic leadership animation — turn the sound up for this.

Thanks to Tom Delay for providing the bulleted analysis seen below. I provided the lines with numbers.

  1. Political payback to Organized Crime Labor
    • HR 1 “Implementing the 911 Commission Recommendations”. Stuffed in this bill was a provision to allow TSA airport screeners to form and join unions. The Democrats couldn’t wait to take care of one their biggest political money sources, the public employee unions. Perhaps debate or amendment over this piece of $6 billion legislation would have been helpful, but alas there was none.
  2. Penalizing Success
    • HR 2 “Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007”. This legislation affects nearly 26 million small businesses, and it was passed without debate. It could cost jobs and ruin business, but the Democrats didn’t want debates or amendments to slow them down.
  3. Converting Science to a religion (belief in the unknown)
    • HR 3 “Embryonic Stem Cell Research”. This will cost taxpayers $135 million dollars. It ends human life, and promotes questionable science. Furthermore, the bill was passed in the same week that researchers announce the discovery of human stem cells in amniotic and placental fluid which might avoid the destruction of human embryos. This legislation forces taxpayers to invest millions of dollars into unproven, morally controversial research, instead of being invested in other non-controversial stem cell research methods. No debate or amendments on this.
  4. Move toward socialized medicine
    • HR 4 ” Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act”. This costs nearly $22 million. There are serious questions about the government’s methods of negotiation, but it was passed without debate or amendments. So the Democrats and some less than foresighted Republicans voted for the government to interfere with market economics and “jawbone” or “negotiate” prescription drug prices. This is a disaster in the making and serves as an opening salvo in the Dems plan for a federally controlled health care system.
  5. “Temporarily” fixing a part of higher education that isn’t broken
    • HR 5 “College Student Relief”. This cuts the interest rate a student will be charged on student loans. However, it does not address the root problem, the spiraling cost of education, not to mention the fact that the interest rate will only be decreased for six months, and then will quickly double thereafter. Anyway, no debate on this piece of legislation either.
  6. Increase energy tax and dependence on OPEC oil with one act
    • HR 6 “Creating long term energy alternatives for the nation”. This will ultimately increase taxes on energy producers and increase our dependency on OPEC oil. Of course, none of this was brought up during debate.
