Please welcome Richard Dreyfuss to the Star Whores Hall of Shame. Yesterday, during a speech at the National Press Club, Dreyfuss had the following things to say:
There are causes worth fighting for even if you know that you will lose, unless you are willing to accept torture as part of a normal American political lexicon, unless you are willing to accept that leaving the Geneva Convention is fine and dandy, if you accept the expansion of wiretapping as business as usual, the only way to express this now is to embrace the difficult and perhaps embarrassing process of impeachment. [Impeachment] is a statement that we refuse to endorse bad behavior. If we refuse to debate the appropriateness of the process of impeachment, we endorse that behavior, and we approve the enlargement of executive power, regardless of whoever may occupy the White House in the future.

Now, it is not your job as the press to impeach George Bush. [However, people in the media should] maintain the integrity of that debate by not dismissing the topic out of hand as partisan or unpatriotic.
Lets recapitulate the lies in Mr. Dreyfuss’ statement:
- [The military uses] torture – only legal methods of interrogation are used. This has been verified by members of Congress first-hand. Dreyfuss’ insinuation here is just flat not true.
- The US does not observe the Geneva Conventions – The US does, but the conventions do not apply to terrorists illegally engaging in combat. A blatant lie, Mr. Dreyfuss
- The expansion of wiretapping – Congress approved wiretapping for post-9/11 monitoring of the enemies of the US. Moreover these powers have been in place for previous administrations. Another misguided prevarication.
- [The administration has expanded] executive power – Actually, Congress also approved executive powers in the War on Terror, and maintains the right to oversight. Again Mr. Dreyfuss sounds like he is channeling Howard Dean‘s insane rants.
And here’s a little stroll down memory lane for Richard Dreyfuss:
Between 1978 and 1982, Dreyfuss acted in several films, but none did particularly well at the box office. This led to a growing drug dependency, which ended one night in 1982, when his car hit a tree and he was arrested for possession of cocaine.
So, let me get this straight; the National Press Club, and the media in general are supposed to take this sage advice from a reformed[?] cocaine user? He certainly sounded like he was suffering from the delusional after-effects of drugs and pain-killers during his speech.
And I wonder if Dreyfuss is trying to look like Dick Cheney? This has nothing to do with his induction into the hall, but I still wonder . . .
At any rate, please welcome Dreyfuss to the “Delusional Moonbat” gallery in the Star Whores Hall of Shame.
I dissagree with your brief editorial on Richard Dreyfuss. I live in Canada and see first hand how the USA applies it’s double standard. Keeping prisoners in outdoor dog cages, with no right to a trial (fair or otherwise), no right to family visitations and no legal representation IS torture. Torture is against the Geneva Convetions no mater what country is involed, even the USA. On the wiretapping issue, I really don’t know so I won’t comment on that; but the issue of expanded executive power Mr. Dreyfuss is correct. The US administration shortly after the 911 terrorist attack created a new section of government called “Homeland Security”. That sir is an expantion of government.
Now on the issue of Mr Dreyfuss’s Cocaine charge back in 1982. That was 24 years ago! What was the purpose of that attack on his chacter? To discredit him? To make fun of him? To insult him on the world stage like you just did?
You should follow your own guidlines pal. The ones where comments of the same nature as yours would not be published…..But yours will of course.
Do yourself a favor, don’t bother dredging up old mistakes people make. That is chacter assination and it makes you not only appear foolish, but childish as well.
Please for your own sake, re-evaluate your writing style, if you don’t want insultive or derogitory comments coming back at you for the articals you write; then don’t be like that yourself.
Larry Adams – Canada
Cool – my first liberal troll.
I’ll get back to you Larry . . .
Mr. Addams
You have no standing here to criticize how we Americans do business. Let 2
fully loaded 757’s slam into one of your major population centers and we
shall see how you bleeding heart canadian liberals deal with terrorists.
Oh, but wait, I see how you deal with them. You let other countries do the
fighting for you and you just sit back and criticize. Until then I would suggest
you do us all a favor and shut up.
Re: Comment by DJ. I truely sympathise with the people of the United States after Terror Attack of 911. I was as shocked and horified, the same as you were. I remember being fearful that it would be the start of world war 3.
Please let me clarify something to ease your anger. I merely disputed the facts that Cap n Bob wrote. I didn’t give my oppinion as to wheather it was right or wrong, so in my mind, that’s not criticizm; it’s a disspute of the facts. But I do have my oppinions of the United States and they are not good. I’ve read in the newspapers more than once of american bounty hunters coming over our boarder and spiriting away Canadians Citizens to face American Justice. So you believe kidnapping IS excusable? What other rights can be stomped on in the name of American Justice? How about murder? I watched one of your President’s speaches where he stated that it was the right of the American Government to hunt down and kill anyone, anywhere in the world that they deamed to be a threat to the American people. So both Kidnapping and Murder are both excusable in the name of American Justice? Don’t you realize the implications of this?…..Will this public comment make me an “Enemy of the State”? Should I be afraid for what I just wrote?
To Cap n Bob: I really didn’t think you would publish my comment….I was wrong….you are fair after all.
Larry,
Sorry I didn’t get back to this sooner – I have a regular job and have to attend to the business of defense systems engineering (you might call them “war machines”) for a major west-coast DOD supplier. Now, on to the rebuttal:
If you’re in Canada, then how can you “see first hand” anything going on in the US? Via ultra-liberal Canadian TV? CNN? US Alphabet Network News? All these are agenda-driven so-called “progressive” outlets, which oppose US policy. You can’t get accurate news there. (Source: Media Research on Liberal vs. Conservative media reporting)
You have no idea what the conditions are like at Gitmo. Outdoor cages is what the media show, but those are for fresh-air and exercise. These detainees are so freakin’ pampered – they get three squares a day (of preferred middle-eastern food). They get counseling and opportunity to pray or whatever. You apparently have not done any research whatsoever about conditions at Gitmo. (Source US Congressional Report on Detainee Status.)
Homeland Security – Expansion? Not really. It’s a consolidation of resources already existing. More like evolution than expansion. For what it’s worth, the left accused the president of secretly expanding his executive powers – almost nobody objects to DHS.
You accuse me of “character assassination” of Dreyfuss. Let me just say that he did that to himself – snorted enough blow to wind up driving into a tree – I just reported it; I didn’t make it up. Regardless of the 24 years elapsed, it still happened.
And regarding my writing-style – refer to the name at the top of the page. I’m happy to take credit for it and love sharing my opinions with anyone. It’s a blog, not a term paper.
I criticize people who have established celebrity and use their notoriety as a platform to spout their political opinions. If they want to do that, then they should do as Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan and others did and change into politicians.
A few more things: 1. September 11, 2001, actually was the start of the third world war. Just look at the enemies of our nations (yes both yours and mine and the rest of the democratic west) – our enemies want to destroy western ideals and establish a world-wide Islamic caliphate. 2. Bounty Hunters? I can’t speak about that issue other than if they bring cop-killers and baby-rapers to justice, then I’m for “apprehending” those folks – I don’t call that kidnapping. 3. Since we’re at war (WW3 remember?) I certainly hope that our defenses will hunt down and kill the enemies of America – after all that’s our enemies’ intent – to destroy or enslave us all.
Finally, we like getting different viewpoints on our blog. You will get your opinions published here – no problem – as long as you follow the guidelines in the “Making Comments” page under the information header in the sidebar. You might also want to look into getting the Google® toolbar; they have a neat spelling checker that finds spelling errors in forms and text boxes.
Hey DJ Thanks for your input. I went to your blog and liked what I saw. Post more often – we like your stuff.
Larry,
Yeah, what the Cap’n said . . .
Thanks Larry
This has been a very busy month for me. A promotion, bowling tournaments and a new grand daughter. I will start posting again this week now that things have settled down for me again.
