Happy Birthday to my old armed service force, The United States Navy.
I enlisted in 1960 when President Eisenhower was still in the white house and I mustered out in 1966 while President Lyndon B. Johnson was busily escalating the war in Vietnam. I never regretted the training, experience and honor of serving in the US Navy.
From The Patriot Post:
On Oct. 13, 1775, the U.S. Navy was born when the Continental Congress authorized the arming of two sailing vessels with 80 men and 10 carriage guns in order to intercept British supply and munitions transports. The Declaration of Independence came nine months later, followed by the creation of the Department of the Navy in 1798. Today, our Navy is the most powerful in the world. We at The Patriot Post offer our thanks to all our sailors for a job well done and wish you a Happy 239th Birthday! God bless you and your families.
GO NAVY!
Spent all day on the Iowa today, helping the Scouts with their Radio Merit Badge “Air Checks”.
Ran 130 Scouts through, and I’m ready for a shower, some dinner, and a movie!
Read your post today about the Shells and Scouts, Jim. Way to go!
Looking forward to the next photos of the JOTA and closeups of the ordinance.
We had a couple of the Iowa crew who write for the crew newsletter there, so I’m hoping I can get some shots.
And I’m taking my big Nikon on Wednesday, as we’re going to start the photo documentation of the transmitter restoration.
We’re going to slide out (they’re on slides, thank God!) each of the transmitters and open them up to see if any parts have been pulled.
We’re pretty confident that nothing’s been taken, as the guys who have lots of experience with these things say the Navy would just pull the whole unit, rather than grab parts and slide it back in.
