Nothing like a little graphic evidence to show where the popular spot is in the Ford exhibit at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. The media proclaimed the show was all about saving the planet with electric and gas-efficient vehicles to be the show’s main theme. You can see for yourself how the attendees voted with their feet. Top: Ford Trucks and SUV exhibit – bottom: Ford green vehicles exhibit.

I’d consider a green Jeep Wrangler.
Actually, I like the alternative energy ideas. I’m a fan of wind turbines, (There’s a pun in there somewhere.) and photovoltaic cells for individual houses and smaller applications are good. The big reflective solar arrays can help, too. But they should not be subsidized or mandated by the government, and they cannot meet all our energy needs. Let the market find the niche for them.
We have no problem with alternative energy, as you say, as long as it isn’t a government mandate. I think there should be more nuclear plants, which are always blocked by liberals who are afraid of technology.
Let’s say that the entire fleet of US motor vehicles is converted to electric. If you do the numbers, it would take 500 nuclear plants to provide the electricity needed to charge batteries daily. The trouble is, there are only 460 or so worldwide with about 115 of them in the US.
At the rate we’re going, we’ll be using cow dung as method of energy. Now that the EPA’s Browner steps down, only after the damage is done.
I hear ya, Cap’n. People think those electric cars are nice and clean, but the extra electricity needed to charge them likely comes from a fossil fuel powerplant. They need to burn more fuel to supply the electricity, and the pollution count goes up at the plant. People don’t see that, and they blithely think they’re doing “A Good Thing” (Ta Da!)
