While a TASER XREP might be a good non-lethal solution to a home invader, I would recommend the next round in the magazine to be a standard 12-gauge double-ought round – Just in case.
How Stuff Works has a new article on this interesting technology.
Creating a device small enough to fit into a shotgun shell casing but powerful enough to incapacitate a subject was no easy task. The development team at TASER had to find a way to balance power with size. Not only did they need the device to travel farther than a standard TASER, but also to have the right amount of mass. If it had too little mass, it wouldn’t travel far enough. But if it had too much mass, it could become a deadly projectile rather than a non-lethal solution.
UPDATE: This has nothing to do with this post, but deserves your attention. Gun Rights Examiner has details about a teacher getting suspended for having a picture on Facebook while holding a gun. Recommended reading for sure.
That has got to be the most frightening thing I have ever seen fly out of a shotgun barrel. That projectile (Satan’s Deer Slug) looks like it will burrow right up yer arse and send a data burst homing signal to the mothership so the aliens can scoop you up and really give your colon a good going over.
Ha!
This made me and Damsel laugh out loud – it reminds us of the episode of South Park where aliens implant a monstrous satellite dish in Cartman’s derriere. Very funny.
As an aside, the XREP is only available to law enforcement.
Not that we couldn’t use it in a riot situation but if someone is dumb enough to break into my house, I would certainly not be thinking “non-lethal”. Besides, the sponge, non-lethal rounds we use hurt like hell (even with body armor on at 30 ft.) so why re-invent the wheel.
I tend to agree with René . . .
Anyone coming into the house uninvited should not be welcomed with $800 (each) designer ammo. Some good buckshot ought to discourage an invader.
Damn!! that would suck to be shot with! imagine getting shot in the ass!!!
I imagine it would be an electrifying experience – but I wouldn’t like to find out for sure.
