In a ruling by Judge Carl Barbier, the city attorney was ordered to compensate the National Rifle Association&#8217;s attorneys &#8220;for wasted time and money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What I want to know is why aren&#8217;t Nagin, Riley and their attorney paying fines for contempt? Why aren&#8217;t they being <em><u>prosecuted<\/u><\/em> for their illegal actions?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nraila.org\/News\/Read\/Releases.aspx?ID=8905\">City of New Orleans, Mayor Ray Nagin Once Again Found in Contempt of Court<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, February 13, 2007<\/p>\n<p>District Court Judge to City Attorney:<br \/>\nconduct \u00e2\u20ac\u0153wholly unprofessional\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Fairfax, VA\u00e2\u20ac\u201dThe National Rifle Association (NRA) and law abiding gun owners have won yet another victory this morning against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and former police chief Warren Riley.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Carl J. Barbier, presiding over the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, granted NRA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s motion for contempt against New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Warren Riley for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153failure to provide initial disclosures and to compel answers to discovery\u00e2\u20ac\u009d during NRA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s injunction against the City for their illegal gun confiscation of law abiding citizens following Hurricane Katrina in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Once more, Mayor Ray Nagin and former police chief Warren Riley are held accountable for considering themselves above the law,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Chris W. Cox, NRA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s chief lobbyist. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153These men have had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, every step of the way in this process to return the lawfully owned firearms to their own citizens, and Judge Barbier rightly found them in contempt of court for their complete lack of respect for the rule of law.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Judge Barbier concluded the delaying tactics by the City\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s attorney, Joseph Vincent DiRosa, Jr, to be \u00e2\u20ac\u0153wholly unprofessional and shall not be condoned\u00e2\u20ac\u009d.
