Their article entitled &#8220;<em>Global warming at a standstill, new Met Office figures show<\/em>,&#8221; is reproduced, in part, below.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Met Office has downgraded its forecast for global warming to suggest that by 2017 temperatures will have remained about the same for two decades.<\/p>\n<p>A new scientific model has revised previous figures for the next five years downwards by around a fifth.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast compares how much higher average world temperatures are likely to be than the \u201clong-term average\u201d from 1971-2000.<\/p>\n<p>It had been thought that this would be 0.54C during the period 2012 -2016 but new data puts the figure for the 2013-2017 period at 0.43C.<\/p>\n<p>This figure is little higher than the 0.40C recorded in 1998, the warmest year in the Met Office Hadley Centre\u2019s 160-year record \u2013 suggesting global warming will have stalled in the intervening two-decade period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, it is thought that factors such as ocean current patterns may be behind the slowdown and scientists say the \u201cvariability\u201d in climate change does not alter the long-term trend of rising temperatures.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course, the usual &#8220;however&#8221; statement (highlighted) leaves the door open for future panic. <\/p>\n<p>Hat tip &#8211; <strong>Greg Pollowitz<\/strong> of Planet Gore &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/planet-gore\/337202\/scientists-global-warming-has-stopped-greg-pollowitz#\">Scientists: Global Warming Has Stopped<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to scientists being quoted by (of all the unlikely media places) The London Telegraph.
