On SOHO, I saw that sunspot 1543 is prominent in the northern hemisphere of the solar globe today.<\/p>\n<p>I grabbed the Canon SX-40 and my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rainbowsymphonystore.com\/solar-filters.html\">economy solar filter<\/a> and went out in the courtyard and took the image above. I am using the <a href=\"http:\/\/capnbob.us\/blog\/2012\/03\/31\/preparing-to-photograph-the-eclipse\/\">same camera setup<\/a> that I used for the <a href=\"http:\/\/capnbob.us\/blog\/2012\/05\/20\/the-annular-eclipse-of-may-20-2012\/\">May 20th annular eclipse<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/capnbob.us\/blog\/2012\/06\/06\/venus-transit-progress\/\">June 5th transit of Venus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;little&#8221; sunspot is about three times the diameter of the Earth.
